Home Service Connect Rate Benchmarks

Understand whether your team is reaching homeowners—and compare results without confusing call attempts, live answers, and unique customer conversations.

Discuss Your Calling Workflow

What is a good home service connect rate?

A useful connect-rate benchmark must use the same definition, lead type, and calling conditions as your campaign. A recent requested callback should not be judged against an old list of unresolved inquiries.

This guide does not assign an unsupported industry average. Begin with a documented internal baseline and measure comparable campaigns against it.

Which connection metric are you measuring?

MetricSuggested formulaImportant distinction
Live-answer rateAttempts answered by a person ÷ total attempts × 100.Can include wrong parties. Exclude voicemail and automated systems under this definition.
Right-party connect rateAttempts reaching the intended customer or authorized contact ÷ total attempts × 100.Repeated successful calls to one person count as separate connected attempts.
Unique contact rateUnique intended contacts reached ÷ unique intended contacts attempted × 100.Each person is counted once, regardless of repeat attempts.
Qualified conversation rateAttempts producing a conversation meeting your qualification criteria ÷ total attempts × 100.Requires a documented definition of a qualified conversation.

Check your platform’s reporting definitions. A dashboard field labeled “connected” may not use the same rules as your internal right-party conversation metric.

Example: why the denominator changes the result

Hypothetical calculation—not a performance target.

A team makes 500 attempts to 200 unique contacts. There are 60 right-party connected calls involving 45 unique people.

  • Right-party connect rate: 60 ÷ 500 = 12%.
  • Unique contact rate: 45 ÷ 200 = 22.5%.

Both results are correct. They answer different questions: how often an attempt connects, and how much of the list has been reached.

What should you investigate when connect rates change?

  1. List composition: compare source, age, service type, and whether people requested contact.
  2. Data quality: review invalid numbers, duplicates, and wrong-party outcomes.
  3. Timing: compare equivalent local-time windows and honor agreed callbacks.
  4. Calling setup: investigate connection delays, audio problems, and number-related issues.
  5. Outcome coding: confirm that representatives classify voicemail and live conversations consistently.

Change one meaningful variable at a time where practical. If the list, calling schedule, and script all change together, it becomes difficult to explain the result.

Frequently asked questions

Does voicemail count as a live connection?

Not under the definitions used here. Keep voicemail separate from live answers so your report reflects actual human contact.

Can more calls lower the connect rate?

Yes. Additional unanswered attempts increase the denominator. Review unique reach and completed outcomes alongside the per-attempt rate.

Does a high connect rate guarantee more sales?

No. It establishes contact, not service fit, booking, or completion. Track the next stages to understand business value.
